Our family is planning to paddle the Missouri Break Section of the Missouri River in Montana this coming summer.
150 miles over 8 days from Fort Benton, Montana to Kipp Recreation Area, Montana.
This section of the Missouri River is designated Upper Missouri National Wild and Scenic Riverway. My understanding is that it is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Many segments of the river are also a component of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument.
They request a 30 day notice for shuttle.
It is a 3.5 hour shuttle.
We will not need a fire pan for this trip, but will need to pack the poop. That’s ok. We’ve packed the poop twice now (Green River, Utah and Rio Grande, Texas), so this is not a deal breaker for us.
We have option to rent canoes for $30 per day. That would be around $500 for two canoes over 8 days. We can take our own canoes, but wind is a problem with traveling and we also worry that they will be stolen while traveling. However, we prefer our own canoes and will most likely take our personal boats.
