My camera fell in the sand on the last big day of our vacation. It’s a blessing really. It’s a Canon A510 that I’ve had for years. It has provided and I appreciate it’s long life, but it was time. As I’ve made more and more movies I am ready to upgrade my footage quality and hopefully audio quality as well.
This will be my first time venturing out of the Canon market in many years. Apparently this is a big deal because the folks at Bedford Camera said, “Springfield is a Canon community.” Ha. I noticed. Craigslist is full of Canons, with nary a Sony or Panasonic option for hundreds of miles. After much research I decided on the Panasonic Lumix G7. It seems to be the highest quality video for the cheapest price. She also takes a really nice photo, which is what I’ve mostly been focusing on in the month since I bought her.
I am happy with the purchase. Yes, she seems to take high quality video (4K), has an external mic port (which I hope to use some day), and other fun little diddies I have been playing with. One fun feature is panoramic photos. I’ve made a few successful panoramas and failed at way more:
I’ve also been enjoying the 4K burst shots. I press the shutter and it takes a photo for a second (I think). I can then choose the image from within the 1 second that captures the perfect moment.
Check out that bee!
I have tried taking night shots, but with no success yet. Some day I will break out the manual settings and take some great night shots, but for now I will just continue learning and enjoying the Panasonic Lumix G7 one button at a time. Here are a few more shots that I think turned out especially beautiful.
